This report provides information on the 2nd Annual Youth Consultation on Migration by Young People We Care (YPWC), a youth-led organization based in Ghana and offices in the United Kingdom and Canada. The report states that out of 214 million international migrants around the world in 2008 nearly 20% comprised youth (people between 15 and 30 years of age). The aim of the Consultation is to bridge the gap in communication between the youth and those involved in political migration debates and make the voices of youth heard as they “lack ways to contribute on global policies that affect them”. The consultation involved 176 young people from 61 countries of both genders, from both rural and urban areas.

The report describes the results of the 3-week survey in the course of which participants were asked about the economic and cultural contribution of migrants, migration policies, their positive and negative experiences of integration in the host-countries. These and other migration-related questions were united under three subthemes: Making the Migration-Development Nexus Work for the realization of the MDGs; Migrant integration, reintegration and circulation for development; Migrant communication, Policy and Institutional Coherence. The report presents analyses as well as direct quotations of participants’ responses. The results of the consultation include policy recommendations leading to the realization of “development” aspects of migration in the future.
