Collaboration, Denunciations, and Agents Provacateurs: Tracing out the Disturbing Life of Jiří Arvéd Smíchovský
Our walk will follow the life of Jiří Arvéd Smíchovský, a Czech-speaking Praguer who, shortly after the Nazi occupation, became one of the most notorious agents within the Security Service. The talk will use Smíchovský to probe broader questions related to collaboration and denunciation under Nazi occupation and will conclude with a discussion of the postwar retribution trials.
The walk was prepared by UNC at Chapel Hill Professor Chad Bryant, author of the book Prague in Black: Czech Nationalism and Nazi Rule.
