Seminar "Egypt after January 25: Survey of Youth Migration Intentions"

Since the 1970s and the oil embargo, Egypt has been labeled as a 'Sending Country'. In recent years, there is an increased trend of irregular migration to Europe particularly by youth. After the 25 January events in Egypt, the International Organization for Migration in Egypt commissioned a survey to understand how Egyptian youth view the future of their country and to what extent the turmoil, reform and uncertainty may influence positively or negatively their intention to migrate.

This seminar will present the result of a survey conducted by IOM between March and April 2011 where 750 youth between the age of 15 and 29 were interviewed. The survey was conducted in seventeen governorates characterized as the most densely populated Egyptian governorates.

The seminar takes place on 14 September 2011 in the 6th Floor Lounge in Hill House at 7 - 9 pm.
