Public debate: Education – Study – Migrations

This video is an edited record of the public debate “Education – Study – Migrations” which was organized by Ljubljana based NGO Peace Institute and took place on 17th December 2013 in Ljubljana. Main focus of this public event was the situation with study and education of migrants in Slovenia. Children of migrants often face segregation and are more likely to drop out of school early. Inferior education means a greater likelihood of unemployment and poverty. Last year Slovenian government started to implement the Exercise of Rights to Public Funds Act. A direct consequence of this act is that students from other countries who have chosen to study at Slovenian universities are no longer eligible to receive grants from public funds.

Speakers were:
  • Uršula Lipovec Čebron, University in Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts
  • Mojca Pajnik, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences and Peace Institute
  • Dejan Plantak, University in Ljubljana (student)
  • Irena Kuntarič Hribar, Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities
  • Živko Banjac, Ministry of Education, Science and Sport

Debate was moderated by Admir Baltić, Bosniak Cultural Union of Slovenia.
