Hierarchies of Vulnerability: Country report United Kingdom
We are publishing the first country report that was written in the framework of Flexi-in-Security project, launched by Multicultural Centre Prague and its partners. This cultural project aims to raise awareness about the impact of the economic crisis on labor migrants. Despite the promoted principle of "flexicurity", the European states proved to be inable to provide basic social security rights for migrants during the economic crisis. The report by Ian M. Cook as a first from the series of country reports focuses on social protection of labor migrants in the United Kingdom. The author points out that the flexible economy has allowed many migrants to easily find work, however, simultaneously it has created the conditions for exploitation of migrant workers. The author speaks about the "hierarchies of vulnerability" with the rights and entitlements guaranteed or not by a migrant's legal status and other factors.
