Albanians in the Czech Republic
The study follows Albanian immigration and integration on the Czech territory. The first chapter describes the motives behind Albanian emigration and the development of migratory flows into the Czech Republic. The Albanian community in the Czech Republic was born in the 1980s, when the Czech Republic served as a base for Albanian gastarbeiters working in Germany. Today, the Czech Republic is a transit country but increasingly often also a target country for migrating Albanians. The study also explores the hot topic of illegal border crossings and people smuggling. In the final chapter, the author provides an estimate of the number of Albanians living in the Czech Republic (standard statistical data include citizens and do not reflect ethnicity) building on comparative data from Croatia, Yugoslavia and Turkey.
