The international conference taking place from 18 to 19th of November 2005 - "New Patterns of East - West Migration in Europe" at the Hamburg Institute for International Economics was organized by the Migration Research Group. It brought together researchers and Ph.D. students from Eastern and Western Europe as well as the US. The papers covered domains such as transnationalism, labour markets, irregularity, determinants of migration, highly skilled migrants and migration policies. These were approached by researchers coming from the following disciplines: economics, sociology, anthropology, political science and international relations. Geographically, the papers covered countries like Poland, Hungary, Romania and the impact of migration originating in these countries on the EU at large and EU member states in particular.
